Providence Spelling Sensation Advances to State Finals

We are thrilled to announce that Ozichukwu Egesi, one of our Year 6 students, has achieved a remarkable feat by advancing to the state finals of the Spelling Bee.

With determination and skill, Ozi has showcased his exceptional talent and secured his place among the top spellers in the region. It was a moment of sheer excitement as his name soared to the heights of a perfect score, a rare accomplishment that highlights his dedication to mastering the art of spelling. We couldn't be prouder of Ozi's accomplishments and wish him the very best as he prepares to compete at the state level.

Congratulations, Ozi!

We recently interviewed Ozi to gain insights into his incredible journey and preparation for the spelling bee.

Ozi, do you have any spelling tips that you would like to share?
“To prepare for the Spelling Bee, I recommend storing a vocabulary of words by reading and then finding out the meaning of them. You should always practise at least 20 words daily, and make sure you can memorise the British and American spellings so you don’t confuse them on the competition day. It would be best to also learn the spelling for frequently misspelt words and tricky words, such as “leukocyte” and “fuchsia”. It would also help to memorise words from other cultures since Australia is a Multicultural Nation, such as “pariah” and “apartheid”.”

What's your take on the exciting challenge of defending your title?
“Although I have won the title, I will not take it for granted, nor will I go with a complacent attitude but with determination. Because of this, I have been practising with the same motivation as last year, and I intend to defend my title for the next four years.”

How do you feel about advancing to the state finals?
“I am happy that I was able to get a perfect score in the school round in less than a minute. Although I put little effort into my preparation for this competition, I understand that the tension of the contest will grow stronger, and I will have to get serious about the state / territory round. There is no guarantee that I will win, as other students will be equally competitive. From now on, I will be employing my strategies of preparation to ensure that I give myself every opportunity to win.”
