Statement of Faith

At the very core of Providence Christian College is the Christian faith.

The Godhead
We believe there is one God, eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Deuteronomy 6:4   |   Isaiah 40:28   |   2 Corinthians 13:14

The Sovereignty of God
We believe that God, being sovereign, exercises supreme and absolute control over all creation. We believe that the universe was created by the express Word of the Sovereign God, and not by chance evolutionary processes.
Genesis 1   |   Genesis 2   |   1 Chronicles 29:11-12   |   Psalms 33:6   |   Daniel 4:35   |   John 1:3

The Holy Scriptures
We believe the Bible as originally written to be the inspired Word of God, authoritative and inerrant.  The Bible contains all that is necessary for salvation, and sets absolute standards for every age and life, no other authority is necessary.
Psalms 119   |   Matthew 5:18   |   John 16:12-13   |   2 Timothy 3:16-17   |   2 Peter 1:20-21

The Deity and Work of Christ
We believe in the Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, who though being the eternal Son of God, humbled Himself and became man. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born to the virgin Mary, so that He could reveal God and redeem sinful man.  He accomplished our redemption and atonement by His sinless life, and His sacrificial death on the cross as our representative and substitute.  His bodily resurrection is the assurance that our salvation has been accomplished.  He is now in heaven exalted at the right hand of God, where He is our High Priest and advocate.  We believe that He will return in power and glory to set up His Kingdom.
Matthew 24:30-31   |   Matthew 25:31-34   |   Luke 1:35   |   John 1:1-2    |   John 1:14   |   John 14:7   |   Romans 3:24-25   |   Romans 4:25   |   1 Corinthians 15:3-8   |   Ephesians 1:20   |   Philippians 2:6-8   |   Hebrews 4:15   |   Hebrews 7:25   |   Hebrews 9:24   |   1 Peter 1:3-5

We believe that Satan is a real being.  Throughout the Bible he is always shown to be hostile to God and man.  His defeat has been accomplished by the sinless life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Victory over Satan and his works will be complete at the end of the age.
Genesis 3:1-6   |   Job 1:6-7   |   Isaiah 14:12-17   |   Matthew 4:2-11   |   John 8:44   |   Acts 26:18   |   Romans 6:8-9   |   Hebrews 2:14   |   Hebrews 4:15   |   Hebrews 7:26   |   1 Peter 5:8   |   1 John 3:8   |   Revelation 12:9-10   |   Revelation 20:10

The Lost State of Man
We believe that man was created in the image of God, but through Satan’s activity and Adam’s subsequent sin, inherited a sinful nature, became alienated from God and is unable to regain his original condition by his own efforts.
Genesis 1:26-27   |   Genesis 3:1-6   |   Isaiah 64:6-7   |   Romans 3:23   |   Romans 5:12   |   Ephesians 2:12

We believe that salvation is the free gift of God, given to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  There is no other way to re-establish man’s broken relationship with God.
John 1:12   |   Acts 4:12   |   Ephesians 1:7   |   Ephesians 2:8-10

The Eternal Future
We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost – they who are saved to eternal life in heaven, and they who are lost to eternal damnation in hell.
Luke 16:19-26   |   Luke 23:43   |   2 Corinthians 5:8   |   2 Thessalonians 1:7-9   |   Revelation 20:11-15

The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is a person, is God, and therefore possesses all the divine attributes. He convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgement. He indwells believers when they accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, sealing them for the day of redemption. His work continues in the life of believers, to produce in them a Christ-like character.  It is the task of the Holy Spirit to glorify Jesus and reveal his word.
Genesis 1:2   |   Matthew 1:21   |   John 16:8-14   |   Acts 13:2   |   Romans 8:9   |   1 Corinthians 6:17   |   1 Corinthians 12:12-14   |   2 Corinthians 3:18   |   Ephesians 1:13-14   |   Ephesians 4:30   |   Ephesians 5:18

The Church
We believe that the holy universal Church is made up of all born again believers.  It is both a spiritual and physical body, of which Jesus Christ is the head.
1 Corinthians 12:12-14   |   Ephesians 1:22-23   |   Ephesians 5:25-27

Christian Education
We believe that learning for its own sake, or in isolation from knowledge of God and His plan, is of limited value.  It is the function of Christian education to encourage the search for truth in the context of God’s sovereignty, and His created universe.
Proverbs 9:9-10   |   Proverbs 16:4   |   Proverbs 22:6   |   Ecclesiastes 1:18   |   John 14:6   |   John 17:17   |   John 18:37   |   1 Corinthians 3:19   |   Ephesians 6:4
