Dear Secondary Parents and Students

Welcome to a new year, despite the year not commencing as it normally would and how we would like to welcome in a new year.  A special welcome to the many new families that are joining us from Year 7-12. We hope that your time at Providence will be a very happy and rewarding one.

The purpose of this email is to inform you of what is happening in the Secondary School this week while all are still on extended holidays as directed by our Premier and his State Cabinet.

Year 7-10 students

For all students in Years 7-10, this week will be (as already informed) an extension of the school holidays.  If this situation changes and is likely to continue into the coming weeks,  students will be provided with information related to our Remote Learning, Online Learning programme.  In the meantime, students may like to access SEQTA and view their timetable and become familiar with what subjects they have and on what day. They may also like to commence reading the College ICT Policy and the Assessment and Reporting Policy which is also available on SEQTA Learn under Important Links. Both of these policies will need to be read thoroughly and understood prior to acknowledging them as having been read.

Year 11 and 12 students

It is understandable that many students in Year 11 and 12 are excited to commence their final years of studies.  For this reason,  students in Year 11 and 12 are asked to go onto SEQTA and familiarise themselves with their Course Overviews, and the resources related to each subject in preparation for classes to commence next Monday, February 8.  They are encouraged to commence reading their texts, doing some research on the topics in preparation for their first lesson.  If students have any questions for their teachers during this time please contact them by email and they will be only too happy to respond. Students may also like to commence reading the College ICT Policy and the Assessment and Reporting Policy which is also available on SEQTA Learn under Important Links. Both of these policies will need to be read thoroughly and understood prior to acknowledging them as having been read.  If the situation changes and the lockdown is extended,  students will be provided with information related to our Remote Learning Online Learning programme.

The following are the events that were scheduled for this week which have been cancelled or postponed:

  • Whole School Assembly
  • Commencement Service
  • Swimming –  has been cancelled for this week.
  • Middle School Eat Meet and Greet Evening that was to have been held on Thursday. This important evening will be scheduled for another time.
  • Study Hats Workshop for Year 11 and 12

At this stage, all other events and excursions planned for Week Two and beyond will be going ahead as planned and some of the above will take place and you will be notified of the time and date.

If the situation of lockdown is extended, I can assure you that you will be fully informed and reminded of how our Remote Online Learning programme will operate, and the expectations teachers, parents and students will have in this.

Our lived experiences last year in teaching remotely with Online learning, albeit for a brief period of time, exemplified the professionalism, agility and excellence that Providence became known for.  But of greater importance was the sense of community that rippled through and across our College community.

I am confident that we are well prepared to support our students in their learning, faith journey, safety and wellbeing in 2021 whether it be face-to-face teaching or Online Learning.

In closing, may I thank all parents for the support you have shown in these decisions made by Leadership to support the COVID Lockdown.

We will be in touch later this week with updated information.

I look forward to us all working together once again to nurture these very special and important human beings in our care

Regards
